If you are using Git or equivalent then go to the Git window in Studio and then look at your changed files. If the files are gone from disk then that isn't a VS issue. Depending upon the project type they should be lining up with what is in Solution Explorer. Does it go where you expect? If so then you should be seeing your source files. Right click the project node in Solution Explorer and use 'Open in File Explorer' (or equivalent). However other project types have the list of files hard coded in the project file and therefore it doesn't matter whether the files are on disk or not, you'd see them. ![]() If you have a newer project (like ASP.NET Core) then you'll see a dynamic list of files based upon what is actually in the file system. Solution Explorer only shows files that are in projects. If you have a solution open then the solution folder could be anywhere and the files would be under that. You said that the source files are on the desktop but that wouldn't make any sense. In Solution Explorer do you see your root Solution node and then a project node for your project?
